Corporate stock buybacks can't account for a market like this one. It's running on high corporate profits, continued growth and low interest rates that make alternatives unattractive. I should add that a lot of investors like stock buybacks, too, because it provides continuing demand for their own stock. I think they're mistaken. It would be better for these cash-rich companies to pay higher dividends and let investors decide where they want to put the money.

I sounds to me as if you don't need LTC insurance. You can easily cover the cost, if you need care. I'm so glad that you found my book helpful!. thanks for telling me.

Rating and reviewing services on the Web didn't stop reckless lending that contributed to the financial collapse. It wouldn't have stopped the unregulated S&L lending that led to the previous financial bust. Most of it wasn't fraud -- it was financial practice that enriched the few (hence, the incentive to behave recklessly) at the expense of the economy as a whole.

Dear Jane,

Would you recommend that a couple (both 66) with about 7 million in assets, no debts, and no heirs, get LTC. We are on the fence. It is possible that we may buy a bigger home in the next few years and could use more of our money. So, also, how would you answer that for a couple like us with 4 to 5 million in assets. One financial advisor told us we really didn't need it. The other recommended that we get coverage for about $100/day, just for peace of mind (though he said that we really didn't need it). What would you say in our case. I have valued your financial writings greatly through the years and started out when I was younger reading your book (Making the Most of Your Money) from cover to cover.

The democratic solution is working better than the autocratic (government) solution. People can now rate and review ratings of products and services on web sites and several creative private services are now in place to provide more effective communication regarding the quality of products. The government already has legal agencies to handle fraud, so lets not assume that more is better, or even needed.

Once again the GOP is taking the side of big business at the expense of the little guy. It amazes me that the Republicans have been so successful in convincing the middle class to vote against their own self interest. Elizabeth Warren should get a medal.

Dear Jane,

I understand the recent bull market is partially due to corporate buy backs of their stocks. Can you talk more about that issue? It has the air of corporate honchos rigging the system in order to increase their bonuses. Thanks.

You're sounding like a liberal here...the last thing we need is more gov't agencies and spending. The Republicans here are on the correct track
