How guns could kill YOUR children: Chapter 5
I’ve been keeping a tally of kids killed or wounded by playmates who found an adult’s loaded gun in the house and used it for “fun.” You probably assume that your children ae safe because you live in a nice neighborhood and have no guns in the house.
In Tekonsha, Mich., a 7-year-old girl was shot in the arm while standing beside the swimming pool in her yard. A neighbor with a concealed-carry permit was using a handgun for target practice in a nearby field. He missed the target. The bullet traveled at least 200 yards and hit the child. Luckily, it was “only” a wound. She wasn’t killed.
Suburban and rural neighborhoods everywhere are subject to these kinds of risks, as the culture of gun ownership spreads. The neighbor, of course, would assure anyone who asked that he was the kind of careful, responsible gun owner needed to keep our leafy, quiet streets safe.http://bit.ly/16m4UuM
