DADT: Just sayin’

On a radio call-in show this morning, macho military guys were trembling in their boots about what might happen if gays serve their country openly. The machos are terrified of being “approached in the shower” or otherwise sexually harassed. Funny, but guys never obsess over the harassment (including rape) visited by straights on military women. That seems to be treated as a normal and acceptable part of war-zone life.
As for gays mixed with straights in the shower, the danger of harassment (or worse) runs the other way. On the same show, one caller told of a gay in “‘Nam” whom he saw killed by friendly fire. Threateningly, he predicted more such deaths if DADT is repealed. If I were gay, I’d be terrified of serving with “buddies” like these, let alone taking the mortal risk of harassing them. In fact, it will be a sign of singular, personal courage for gays to serve openly in the military at all.

How many reports have you heard of a ‘gay’ pursuing a ’straight’ to the point of harassment or worse? Men and women, the majority of the time, instinctively sense wherein the orientation lays. Gays, unlike the religious whacks and other ultraconservatives, aren’t interested in trying to get people to ‘convert’ for their personal gain.
There are bigger problems in the military to worry over than this.
These straight guys sure seem to have an overly inflated opinion of their physical attractiveness.
Simple Observer, might it even border on paranoia?
Sing it, sister!
Amen!
I remember Tailhook. And I don’t for a minute think it’s stopped, how many women come back NOW from Iraq and Afganistan with PTSD from rape by their own fellow soldiers? They’re scared gay men will behave like what they condone of straight men.
How long ago was Tailhook?
